SOCCER: Port Elliot local Katie Wyschnja is certainly a soccer star on the rise.
Katie recently represented South Australia in the Under 17 state soccer team.
The team travelled to Coffs Harbor to compete in the FFSA Australian National Womens Soccer Competition playing six games over the course of a week.
Katie along with her teammates finished first in their pool and narrowly lost the semi-final to Queensland before playing off against the New South Wales metro side to finish fourth out of ten teams that competed.
"It was a really good experience, it's a tough competition," Katie said.
This is the third consecutive year the sixteen-year-old Tatachilla student has made the state team.
Kate said that playing for her country "would be great" however she currently has her sights set on making the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) women's soccer team.
"My goal is to make it into SASI," Katie confirmed.
She has already come a long way since matching it with the boys at Southern Breakers after her twin brother got her interested in the sport.
Katie began playing soccer at Southern Breakers in an under 11 mixed side and continued playing there until the end of her under 15 season.
She has since taken her talents to a more competitive level.
Katie is currently playing her second season with Cumberland United in the Premier Womens League.
It is a busy schedule for the right midfielder who has had to fit schoolwork in with 3-4 trainings a week and games on Sundays.
Katie said she could not do it all without the support of her parents Margy and Alex.
