NETBALL: The depth of talent in the Great Southern Netball Association will be on display this Sunday May 4 at Strathalbyn.

The carnival season begins with the GSNA hosting the annual Jill May Memorial Netball Carnival.

Great Southern will be represented in all three different age groups, 17 & under, 15 & under and 13 & under.

The girls will be competing against representative teams from the Mid Hills and Southern Hills associations, the Southern and Onkaparinga netball academies and the Western Jets and Woods Panthers netball clubs from Adelaide.

The carnival is named in memory of Jill May, a former netball identity from Yankalilla who committed a great deal of her time to both the Great Southern Netball Association and the Yankalilla Netball Club.

The May Family will be presenting the trophies to the winners including the perpetual trophy awarded to the winner of the 17 & under division.

Previously the carnival has been held at Yankalilla but is being held at Strathalbyn this year due to the overwhelming number of teams entered, 18 in total.

The day commences at 9am with the finals being held at 4pm.

The carnival sees the start of the GSNA's representative team commitments with the girls at this stage also attending the Hills Netball Carnival in May and the Country Championships held over the June long weekend.

This year the coaches for the representative teams are:- 17 & Under-Michelle Glazbrook, 15 & Under-Wendy Crosby and 13 & Under-Deb Delderfield.

Nat Lemar, the representative team coordinator has been busy organising all the selections and training of the girls along with the representative team jacket presentation evening which was held on Wednesday night, April 30 at Mt Compass.

The carnival looks like being a great day of competitive netball so go along for a look to see the depth of talent in the association.
