BASKETBALL: Katie Biglands, of Goolwa, has been selected in the South Australian Christian Schools Association Open Girls Basketball team to play on the Gold Coast from August 12 to 16.
The 14-year-old has grasped the opportunity after receiving a letter from her school, Investigator College at Goolwa.
"I had to try out and I made the team of nine," Katie said.
Katie has played basketball for as long as she can remember and plays in the local Great Southern Basketball Association for Goolwa Magic.
"I am going to go to the Gold Coast and play against other top players and learn more skills.
"My aim is to one day play for the Australian Opals and my cousin Rhett has been a big influence on my sporting progress.
"I hope this will give me a really good time and an enjoyable experience," Katie said.
There is one open team and two under 16's in the girl's category competing on the Gold Coast and Katie will be up against all interstate teams.
Katie is not just proficient at basketball, but enjoys and succeeds at athletics and netball and principal of Investigator College, Don Grimmett, is very proud of his student.
"We are very proud of Katie and what she has achieved and we know she will be a great ambassador for the college and the state," Mr Grimmett said.
